This is the authentic Oaxaca culture people talk about. We went for a making and tasting tour and from roasting the cacao beans to learning about the cultural importance and history of chocolate, to making our own bars, was absolutely delightful. With only a few days in Oaxaca, we are so glad we chose this guided tour to better appreciate the place and people and stories of Oaxaca.

My family and I had a wonderful experience learning how to make the most delicious Oaxacan chocolate. The family that runs this business is so kind and their children are beautiful — made the experience extra fun for my children too. On top of all of that, we left with armfuls of chocolate to remember out beautiful day at La Auténtica Chocolateria. This is a can’t-miss experience for anybody visiting Oaxaca!

I had the most wonderful time meeting and learning to make chocolate from scratch, from the owners. The workshop was so much fun, and super tasty! We were guided through the different processes to make the chocolate, then added some different flavours, and made a bar but also learned all about oaxacan chocolate drinking tradition, and then sat down to drink our chocolate and chat together. The owners are so friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming, and i met some very cute dogs and learned all about the different plants and their properties around the garden...and just a really enjoyable day from start to finish. I really loved it. I highly recommend! It's also nice to get a bit out of the city but very easily accessible, I hopped on the bus. And the chocolate they produce is delicious, you'll want to take some away with you too :)

Expected to only be decorating a chocolate bar but they really put us to work! Was very interesting and exciting to see the entire process from roasting and peeling the beans to grinding the cacao and adding the amount of sugar you prefer. The tasting was cool, but could have been a bit more hygienic by giving everyone they’re own plate instead of having to share.

If you like supporting a small, local business that excels in their craft, this experience is for you! I have taken a cooking class as well as the chocolate making & tasting class. Both were excellent and a lot of fun. Both in the cooking class and the bean to bar class, local ingredients as used, thus providing income for local farmers and businesses. I highly recommend both classes! And, Edi’s English is excellent! When you finish the chocolate making class, ask Edi to give you directions to his friends restaurant. It has excellent food & service with very reasonable prices. And, don’t miss the Atzompa Mercado de Artesanías!

A very educational and hands-on experience learning about cacao and making chocolate. The owners were welcoming, generous and passionate about their craft. The organization itself focuses on sustainable and ethical sourcing which is amazing. The chocolate products are delicious. I absolutely recommend visiting and partaking in the experiences offered here. Make your reservations in advance, the owners are quick to respond and helpful to answer any questions you may have.

On of the highlights of our trip! My family and I had such a lovely time with Eddie and his family learning about the history and production of chocolate in Oaxaca. We made delicious bean to bar chocolate and then tasted so many others! Highly recommend!

What a wonderful experience! We were so impressed with this beautiful chocolateria, the delicious samples we shared (even the delicious chocolate beer!) But even more importantly, understanding how chocolate is made- from bean to bar- , the history of cacao and seeing artisanal chocolate made first hand with master chocolatero Edi! A must if you're visiting Oaxaca!
